June is behind us, July lies ahead. Here in the U.S., we’re about to start the long weekend leading up to Independence Day, when Americans celebrate the birth of the nation by buying explosive ordinance wherever fine explosive ordinance is sold and lighting up the night sky (in addition to blowing the shit out of objects and sometimes themselves). People will also be exposing unsightly parts of their bodies wherever sun can be found and eating large quantities of health food prepared on outdoor grills. Our Founding Fathers would be proud of what they wrought!

Because the last month has ended, that means it’s time for another installment of METAL IN THE FORGE, in which we collect news blurbs and press releases we’ve seen over the last month about forthcoming new albums from bands we know and like (including occasional updates about releases we’ve included in previous installments of this series), or from bands that look interesting, even though we don’t know their music yet. In this series, we cut and paste those announcements and compile them in alphabetical order.

Remember — this isn’t a cumulative list. If we found out about a new album during May or preceding months, we wrote about them in previous installments of this series. So, be sure to check the Category link called “Forthcoming Albums” on the right side of this page to see forecasted releases we reported earlier. This month’s list begins right after the jump. Look for your favorite bands, or get intrigued about some new ones. And feel free to tell us about how we fucked up by omitting releases that we overlooked.

  1. Two things really jumped out at me from this list:
    1) New Aborted? NEW ABORTED!!! Then I was like…wait…what will this sound like? I personally liked Strychnine.213, but I’m curiously to hear everyone else’s opinions.

    2) Amon? Really??? I’m not really sure what happened with the Hoffmann brothers and the rest of Deicide, but it seems odd that they’d go THAT FAR back. I mean, is there actual interest in this project? Why not start a new new band??? It seems awfully bizarre.

Okay, three things…I realize I’m probably the only one here interested in Dir en Grey, but I’m curious as to what their new album will sound like. They’ve gotten progressively heavier over the years, so I hold out some hope for them coming closer to the dark(er) side. Or something.

    • I just read on Wikipedia that Aborted pretty much swapped out their entire line-up (except for the vocalist) in 2009.
      Does anyone know why??

      • Just general line-up issues really. As far as I’m aware.

Have you heard the “Coronary Reconstruction” EP they put out since? With Dirk (Soilwork/Scarve/Devin Townsend/a million other awesome bands) Verbeuren on drums and Ken Sorceron (Abigail Williams) on guitar? It’s fucking vicious.

    • I completely lost track of Aborted after “Goremageddon”, which was a monster album. How does their recent stuff stack up against it?

Off topic, but speaking of 4th of July, this is pretty damn funny: http://i.imgur.com/kOGYh.jpg

      • I laughed rather loudly!!

      • I just downloaded Aborted’s “Coronary Reconstruction” EP and couldn’t resist jumping immediately to their cover of Entombed’s “Left Hand Path”. I can’t imagine how anyone could improve on the original, and Aborted’s cover turns out to be very faithful to it . . . but it’s really fuckin sweet.

        • It’s actually my least favourite of their covers. Which I think goes to show the sheer strength of the material they have adapted for cover-age.

After “Goremageddon” I found “The Archaic Abattoir” to be their best. I love it and consider it an absolute death metal classic. ”

“Slaughter And Apparatus…” is out and out Carcass worship and all the better for it. “Strychnine has some good songs (and an awesome cover of “Slaughtered”) but is, imo, a bit limited by its weird melo-death influences which weaken the album as a whole.

On the new album Ken Bedene from Abigail Williams is doing the drums and I am fucking excited – he is a stunning drummer.

  2. I laughed at the All Shall Perish condoms.

    • “Party Tech”… eurgh. Way to dumb down guys.

Plus that really fits well with your artwork and aesthetic… sigh. I guess it is all about the benjamins.

      • I’m pretty disappointed in what they’re doing with this album, too. “Dumbing down” about says it all. However, I’m keeping fingers crossed about the music. Any reactions to “Procession of Ashes”?

    • Just the descriptions on the different packages available are cringeworthy. Someone there needs to bitch slap the copy writer and/or webmaster.

“Sick shirt + Sick Digipak CD = you stoked. DO IT!”

“Sweet Poster of the hottest dudes in the universe signed by the hottest dudes in the universe… and a CD?! Yes… it’s true.”

Someone should also teach them that copypasta sucks. Especially when you paste the wrong information.

Oh hell, let’s do a trepanning instead! Might help.

      • It’s all just sick and sweet and hot, isn’t it? “For all the real mufukaz, an official ASP ‘party tech’ 34 oz. mug and shot glass, 5 ASP condoms, a shirt and the soundtrack to the most epic night of your life!” Trepanning is definitely the only answer for these mufukaz!

  3. I have a list of 43 albums to get, that’s from last year and this year combined, I’m not even including the Dying Fetus reissues and all the amazing albums that I’ve missed in the past… that is including the albums I’m not sure if I’ll like though.

Also, does anyone know when the new Abominable Putridity and Vile are being released?
