Long story short, but I haven’t had much time for blogging over the last week. Fortunately, Phro, TheMadIsraeli, and Andy Synn have stepped up with lots of reviews and . . . a box o’poops? The truncation of my blogging time will continue through the weekend, but I’m still hoping to find time for a few odds and ends — such as this post.

These four videos randomly came my way from different sources. The first two are new, the second two are older, but all four feature music capable of inflicting head trauma, which is the kind of metal I prefer. The perpetrators are Truth Corroded (Australia), Trollfest (Norway), Vomitory (Sweden), and Lecherous Nocturne (U.S.). Let’s get to it:

TRUTH CORRODED

Truth Corroded is a band whose music I hadn’t heard before seeing the video featured in this post. Their new album Worship the Bled was released on September 16 in Europe and Japan by a Belgian label called Ultimhate Records. It features the hard-working Kevin Talley (Daath, Misery Index, Six Feet Under, Chimaira) on session drums as well as a guest appearance by Jonas Kjellgren of Scar Symmetry, who also mixed and mastered the album. The pretty artwork you see above was designed by Killustrations, whose work has also graced the covers of albums by bands such as Aborted and Dew Scented. (more after the jump . . .)

To build interest in the new album, Truth Corroded recently released a music video for the new album’s opening track “Knives of the Betrayed”, which includes live footage of the band’s recent tour of Australia, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The song is a death-scented thrash mauler that’s got a helluva groovy beat. And by “beat”, I mean the kind I’d get in a cage fight with some MMA animal. I avoid cage matches with anything bigger or faster than a loris, but when it comes to music, I enjoy a good pummeling.

Find out more about Truth Corroded at their Facebook page.

TROLLFEST

Norway’s Trollfest is no stranger to these pages. We’ve written about them a bunch, most recently HERE. Whenever they release a new video, I automatically watch it as soon as possible, because they’re always entertaining. Trollfest know how to fucken party and they don’t take themselves too seriously. Even I need a break from uber-grim brutality every now and then.

Plus, the unusual collection of musical styles that Trollfest has amalgamated is a kick in the head to hear. You get an infusion of folk music traditions from Norway and the Balkans (of all places), Middle Eastern melodies, Hispanic rhythms, accordion shred, and enough irresistibly headbanging riffage and rhythms to give your neck a vigorous workout.

To see and hear what I mean, check out this video for a song called “Karve”, which the band released today. It’s from their latest album, En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral. (released this past April on NoiseArt Records).

Trollfest will be starting a tour on September 30 in Europe with Finntroll, Turisas, Alestorm, Arkona, and Skalmold. A few of the dates also include Wintersun, Dornenreich, and Todtgelichter. That sounds like fun, doesnt it? The dates and places can be found here.

VOMITORY

Vomitory is a name that popped up in the comments on one of our recent “THAT’S METAL!” posts. I’ve heard the name before, usually accompanied by high praise for the efficient viciousness of their aural assault. I’ve made mental notes to check out their music, and filed the notes away in a mental space that apparently leaks badly. But yesterday, I was reminded again to check them out via a video link from TheMadIsraeil.

And so that’s the next video in this foursome: Vomitory’s official vid for a song called “Regorge in the Morgue” from the band’s 2011 album on Metal Blade (their eighth), Opus Mortis VIII. The song shows no mercy, either for your ears or for your stomach. You have to admire a band that’s utterly faithful to their name. As TheMadIsraeli pointed out, this may be proof that vomiting is metal after all. My cat will be so pleased to know this. I’m pretty happy about it, too. I just hope I can remember this revelation the next time I’m hunkered down over a toilet bowl trying to eject my entire esophagus.

LECHEROUS NOCTURNE

I saw Lecherous Nocturne earlier this year in Seattle, opening for a tour headlined by Rotting Christ. Before then, they were another band whose name I’d heard in the context of favorable comments, but hadn’t gotten around to hearing their music. Their live set was decimating — tight, fast, and technical, and charged with the passion of unmitigated fury.

I vowed to buy their latest album, but something happened to distract me when I got home. I think it was a moth circling the porch light. Or maybe a pool of cat throwup that I stepped in. (Note to self: VOMIT IS METAL VOMIT IS METAL VOMIT IS METAL.) Anyway, I forgot to do it.

But thanks again to TheMadIsraeli, I got a link to the band’s video for a song called “Just War Theory”, which is the opening track from the last Lecherous Nocturne album, The Age of Miracles Has Passed (2008). Holy hells, is it a head-wrecker. Brutal, atonal tech-death in the vein of Hate Eternal and Origin. If you’re not already bleeding from the eyes and nose after that Vomitory track, you probably will be after this. Even if it’s not your time of the month, the red flow is about to begin:

********

Welp, thas all I got for now. I’ll leave you to staunch the blood from your head wounds and clean up your vomitory excretions. As always, enjoy the rest of your fucking day.

  1. TrollfesT is, without question, my favourite band of all time. I bet you would never have guessed that.

  2. I got really excited when I saw the words “Vomitory video”, and then realized it was the one I’d seen before (but still good upon a second watch). That was the first time I’d heard Lecherous Nocturne, though. Hoooooly shit, it blew me the fuck away.

The Trollfest video had everything good in the world: Alcohol, metal, pretty ladies, good food, and a rubber duck. And as for the Truth Corroded video, the riffing starting at about 2:20 almost broke my neck.

  3. Live to air loris cagefights? Next big thing.

Stoked on Trollfest, you wouldn’t think such a hodgepodge of instruments would sound so good.

    • I tell you what, we could get a huge audience for the very first premiere match, just based on the curiosity factor. After that? Not so much. Fast-paced action is not the forte of your typical loris.

  4. Lecherous was awsome, thanks Islander.

  5. Well, that was a post of four videos.

    And each video/song was awesome.

4 for 4. I have nothing funny to say about that.
