I hope all of you are having, have had, or will have a good Saturday. For those who missed my “Blog Slowdown” post last weekend, I’m mired in an out-of-town project for my fucking day job,  a 7-day-a-week, 18-hour-per-day grind that’s now about halfway complete, with about 10 days left.

I’ve had very little time to do much at NCS but write about some premieres and get the writing of other people posted on the site. That will be true for the next 10 days as well, though I think I’ll have a little extra free time this weekend, and I hope to do something with that for a post tomorrow.

Meanwhile, other people have been stepping up and helping to provide content for the site, both our regular writers and guests. Here’s what’s coming:

Later today we’ll have Part 2 of a round-up of new music by Austin Weber. Tomorrow we’ll have another round-up by our Norwegian friend eiterorm and a “Tourism” post by Austin. On Monday you’ll see a new review by DGR, an interview of a Cuban black metal band by Karina Cifuentes, and the next monthly installment of Dan Barkasi’s “Essential Entries” series. I also have two premieres to bring your way on Monday and Tuesday.

And after that, the crystal ball is cloudy. But that’s not too different from the way things work around here all of the time.

Because I always like to include music with anything we post on the site, I have something to share with you in closing. I discovered it through an e-mail I received from Seattle-based blogger Gemma Alexander, who has been a past contributor to NCS (her excellent blog is here). It’s a video of an electric violinist named Geoffrey Castle, who Gemma saw perform at an event in the Seattle area a couple of nights ago. It’s not metal music, but it’s metal, if you know what I mean.

The video was filmed with four cameras at the Deep Well Studios in Woodinville, Washington, where Castle recorded a double-CD entitled The Deep Well Sessions. The song is called “Istanbul”. As you’ll see, Castle builds the song using a pedal board, creating loops of sound with his violin and then performing the exotic lead melody over those loops — and you watch him do it live, in one take. I thought that was impressive, and the song (which turns out to be a real rocker) is very cool, too. The melody is still in my head, an hour after hearing it.

Castle is also a talented showman — wait for the part where he starts playing the violin behind his back.

Geoffrey Castle has a Bandcamp page that you can find via this link, and there are a lot more videos like this one, from the Deep Well recording sessions, at this location. Hope you enjoy the video.
