In October of this year the New York punishers Leylines dropped a devastating new EP named Sepulchral, which follows up their 2024 self-titled debut. It discharges a mix of heavy-grooved bludgeoning, freaked-out but surgically executed tech-metal, madhouse vocal savagery, and unexpected haunting clean passages.

To help spread the word about these “tech groove deathcore juggernauts”, today we’re premiering a horrifying video for what is probably the new EP’s most destructive song — “Abberation“.

The song quickly creates tension and then just as quickly explodes in bursts of avalanche-strength destruction, accented by a freakishly squirming and darting guitar and intensified by furious howls and cauterizing screams.

The music unpredictably starts and stops, blasts like hyper-active jackhammers, fires like automatic weaponry, and seems to shriek and sizzle. Insectile fretwork leaps out, bizarre in its ecstasies, and the band also traumatically pound, albeit with eerie ambient overlays above.

It’s a thoroughly maniacal experience, both instrumentally and vocally. Even rapidly tinkling piano keys sound demented, though far less dangerous than the obliterating drum flurries, the tunnel-boring bass turbulence, and the screeching fretwork dissonance. At the end, when the catastrophic pulverization stops, the music still sounds very alien.

We’ll also share this comment from Leylines: “It’s the heaviest song on the EP in our opinion and follows a young woman who succumbed to a mass infection that quickly goes from bad to way worse due to a cut sustained while walking outside.”

As mentioned, the video tells a horrifying tale, vividly rendered — and the shots of the band ripping and roaring their way through the song are equally vivid.

LEYLINES is:
Jonathan Carpenter (ex–The Contortionist, Notochord, Foreign Waves) – vocals
Michael Ranne (Through The Eyes of the Dead, ex–My Bitter End) – drums
Bill Hobson (Falling Through The Center of The Earth, Circuit of Suns) – bass
Jesse Blanchette (Conforza, Graveborn) – guitar

The “Abberation” video was filmed and produced by Evan Middleton, and features actress Erica Varia and makeup by Alyska Serounian.

Sepulchral was mixed and mastered by Mikhail Marinas with additional production by Leylines themselves.
