On March 13th a new Spanish underground label named Cruel Gates Records will release Fire & Sulfur, a debut album from the Spanish band Exorcised.
Born from the ashes of the thrash band Madsher, Exorcised have devoted their hellish energies to the creation of old school death thrash, taking their cues from such bands as Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Devastation.
Today we have an example of the infernal sonic madness they’ve created through our premiere of a lyuric video for a song from their debut full-length named “Hatred Knife“.
You’ll understand why Exorcised named their album Fire & Sulfur when you hear this song. Its lead riff generates a blaring pulse (like the surge in a tormented demon’s veins), and the band segment that with hammering drums and an eerily wailing lead guitar off in the distance.
That vicious but tormented pulse continues, and so do the drummer’s furiously bludgeoning assaults, joined by bursts of fast-jabbing guitar-work, fleet-fingered bass-jolts, and malignant roars and howls.
The song’s energy runs on high-octane fuel, and it never runs out. But the band do work in variations in the riffing and the rhythm section’s grooves to keep listeners on their toes. The riffing blurts and swarms, whirls and stabs, while the off-the-hook drumming continues seizing attention all on its own.
And speaking of seizing attention, the song includes a wickedly swirling and soaring fret-melter of a guitar solo, an extra dose of insanity in a song that’s already authentically unhinged. And yet it will also quickly become apparent that the band deliver all the evil mayhem with a high level of technical skill and surgical precision.
