We have observed before that only in the musical realms of death metal are adjectives like “grotesque”, “disgusting”, “regurgitating”, “mutilating”, “rotten”, “foul”, “putrescent”, and “maggot ridden” considered words of praise. Try publicly excreting those words on the music of Taylor Swift or Luke Combs and see where that gets you. But those are among the descriptors discharged on behalf of Me Saco Un Ojo Records and Extremely Rotten Productions for the forthcoming third album by the UK filth-mongers Cryptworm, and they cause salivation around here instead of disgust and repulsion.

The name of the new album is Infectious Pathological Waste, a title that would also cause most surface-dwelling music consumers to run for the hills — and they would run sooner and faster if they caught a glimpse of the album’s colorfully horrific cover art. We, however, are more than ready to dive into this diseased effluvium, maybe involuntarily swallow some of it, and see what happens.

You can have a big gulp yourselves, through our premiere of the new album’s traumatizing title track.

It might indeed be a good idea to get your hazmat suits out of storage and put ’em on before listening to this song, even though that would interfere with you swallowing gulps of the offal. And yet (this is no huge surprise if you’re familiar with Cryptworm’s previous output), the song offers more than musical gore and a need for anti-emetics.

To be sure, Cryptworm have dialed in a guitar tone that’s intrinsically corrupted, and the opening notes create a ghastly moaning pulse. The band also accelerate into an outburst of violently churning riffage, like a hurricane in a sewer, accompanied by truly monstrous guttural gurgling.

But both in the overture and again later, Cryptworm also inflict viscerally compulsive chugs — a brutishly slugging companion for those foul fretwork pulsations — and the bass slugs damned hard even when the riffing generates that churning maelstrom of filth. On top of that, the drummer’s neck-cracking beats provide further fuel for your reflexive muscle-twitches.

The riffing also frantically but miserably writhes; the drums burst open in blasting fusillades; the jackhammer blows become even more cruelly methodical; and the croaking and gurgling vocals begin to sound even more repellant.

As it turns out, thanks in large part to those head-butting rhythmic grooves, the song illustrates both meanings of the word “infectious” — it’s both virulently nasty and as catchy as the clap. In other words, it’s both disgusting and delicious.

Infectious Pathological Waste provides 8 tracks and 35 minutes of hell. It will be released on March 27th — on CD and vinyl by Me Saco Un Ojo and on cassette tape by Extremely Rotten. For more info, check the links below. We’re also providing a stream of the first advance track vomited up from the album, “Drowning in Purulent Excrementia“.
