Any year that brings us a new Wolfbastard record isn’t a complete failure, even a year like this one which is already turning into an abysmal beast — with 10 months left to go! In fact, the worse everything around us looks, the more fuel it adds to Wolfbastard’s fires.
Their newest release, arriving four years on from their third album Hammer The Bastards, tells you what’s coming right in the name: Satanic Scum Punks. And sure enough, it delivers a drunken brawl in Hell’s filthiest bar, where the denizens’ eyes are red, their teeth filed to points, and their blood-hunger ravenous. Get in, get fucked, or fuck off.
The song-names point the way too — such tracks as the opener “It’s Fucking Dark” (you can say that again), “Let the Bastards Burn”, “Blood on Steel”, “Drink for Hell”, “Fuck the Bastards”, and “Maniac Street Rats”. The name of the song whose video we’re premiering today — “F.O.T.D” — is a bit more obscure, but you’ll figure it out (it’s “Fuck Off Then Die!”).
Before we get to the song and video, we can’t resist sharing this vivid words from the press materials circulated on behalf of Wolfbastard’s new label, Apocalyptic Witchcraft:
We’re careering to the end now, pedal to the metal and picking up speed with every turn around the sun; humanity clambering over itself to reach the landfill of shit, bones and misery where it belongs. Some will weep their way to our mass, open grave, capturing their final pathetic moments on the cracked screens of the devices that have eaten their souls. And some will howl in the flames of destruction… drink, fight and bleed their way to oblivion. The end of days will be their best of days as they grind glass into society’s rotten face. Now to the video we’re premiering — for “the kind of song that would headbutt you for breathing” (to quote the PR one more time).
Wolfbastard have opinions… and those seem to include opinions about certain kinds of bands… which you’ll see in the raucous video. Eventually, once that other kind of band gets thrown off the stage, you’ll also get to see these satanic scum punks (and their fans) in action.
As for the song, “F.O.T.D” comes out racing, inflicting slashing and tremolo-driven viciousness that’s alternately grim and maniacal, thoroughly pissed-off vocals, and a variety of knee-capping beats (d-beats, blast-beats, and back-beats). Mayhem reigns, but Wolfbastard also bring in a quick bass solo and then a rabidly jabbing riff that gets its hooks in deep.
We’ll also share the band’s typically Wolfbastard, short and to-the-point, no fucking about quote regarding the video: “Here’s our new music video. Hope you fucking like it! Taaaa.” And now enjoy the latest filth, fury, malice, and menace of Wolfbastard:
