On April 17th Transcending Obscurity Records will release the third album by the doom-laden Mexican black metal band Muerto. Its evocative name is Eclipsed Realms — evocative because the music itself seems to transport listeners into un-real realms of perpetual shadow, there to be overcome by an array of harrowing and haunting experiences.
Two songs from the album have been previously revealed, and today we bring you a third one — “Wilderness“.

“Wilderness” is in many respects a very sinister song, but it’s as tormented and haunting as it is chilling. It’s also a disturbingly catchy song that we predict will continue roaming around listener’s heads and menacing their thoughts for many minutes after it ends.
Muerto move at changing speeds as the song evolves, and they change the music’s moods as often as they shift the momentum. They waste no time putting a chill on listeners’ skins, slowly unraveling a sequence of dissonant notes that eerily moan and wail above rapidly rumbling undercurrents. They accelerate, hammering skulls and using layered guitars to generate a malicious but also sparkling swirl of sound. They downshift into a staggering and stomping cadence that makes good use of their enormous bass tones.
After another sinister but exhilarating whirl they slow even further. The music heavily groans and seems to grieve, and the mood of a feverishly quivering guitar solo is even more distraught. From there the music throbs and writhes, rumbles and thunders, blares and claws, shivers and leaves traceries of agony – and all the changing motifs have a way of getting stuck in the head.
Unexpectedly, the reverberating vocals get stuck too. They might make you think of a gargoyle that has swallowed razor blades — which don’t prevent it from baying and snarling the words. And you might feel the temptation to expel the words (at least in your mind) right along with that dark and dangerous leader.
