Once again we find ourselves in the fortunate position of helping Everlasting Spew Records announce their release of a jaw-dropping new album. This time it’s the third full-length from the Minnesota-based purveyors of “Digressive Death”, Nothingness.
The name of the new album is Godslaughter, and it follows Hollow Gaze of Death (2019, Independent) and Supraliminal (2023, Everlasting Spew Records). Our friend Gonzo reviewed that second album for us, summing it up as “a dizzying, uncomfortable, and overall suffocating experience in interdimensional sonic terror.”
You could guess from the name of the new album (and the cover art) that Nothingness haven’t backed away from the nightmarish hostility of their musical conceptions. If anything, they have doubled-down. Here’s how Everlasting Spew previews the experience:

With Godslaughter, US band Nothingness push their Digressive Death ethos into a realm of unrestrained extremity – a convulsing surge of dissonant fervor, emotional upheaval, and atmospheric dread that shatters structural convention and cements the Minneapolis entity as one of the most uncompromising voices in contemporary death metal!
And we can also share the band’s own statement about their new album:
Godslaughter is a confrontation. Where Supraliminal was largely a look inwards, our new record is a glare out into the world, and a concise statement that gradually unfurls into the excess of oblivion.
Those aren’t empty words, as you’ll discover for yourselves through our video premiere of the new album’s first advance track (and the third one in the running order), the well-named “Skull Evulsion“.
The lyrics of the song make very clear what Nothingness see and feel as they glare out upon the greed-choked world and the “slack jawed simpletons” that help perpetuate merciless power structures. We’ve included the complete lyrics at the very end of this post.
As for the music, it’s every bit as furious as the lyrics. The song combines savage roars, throat-rupturing screams, skull-busting drum-assaults, and fleet-fingered but thoroughly vicious fretwork. The performances create a kind of surgically sharp pandemonium, a finely tuned execution of raging violence.
But as we’ve already come to expect from Nothingness, they also include twists and turns, including a growling and grumbling bass solo, insectile riffing that also blares and feverishly eviscerates, a shift into a phase of highly headbangable bludgeoning, and another shift into a closing maelstrom of convulsion that ought to please grindcore fans — and anyone else in need of cathartic sonic obliteration.
(The video is a fun thing to watch too.)

LYRICS
Take their heads
Their profits speak
And hordes surge
Celebrating on
Unseen corpses
Disgusting groveling sheep
Raise the prophet higher
Praises drooling from
Slack jawed simpletons
What goes up must keep going
Or the hammer falls
A poisoned well is the
Only source of sustenance
Thoughts fed contempt grow fat
gorging on the gristle of their lies.
Humanity all but eroded
Pluck out their feeble minds
Drones are all that suffice
Toothless men
Pat themselves on the back
With clawless hands
And kiss the rings of those
Which wring the necks of dissent
Celebrating
Ghastly priests
Those headless heedless idolaters
Scatter their brains
In a beautiful pattern of splatter
