Formed in 1998 in Vila Nova de Gaia (Porto, Portugal), Biolence have more than 25 years of death/thrashing carnage under their belts and no shortage of the will or skill needed to continue delivering what is rightly claimed as “no-frills, old-school intensity”. That becomes vividly apparent when listening to their forthcoming fifth album, the aptly named Violent Obliteration. Its appeal is primal, its punishment ruthless, its effects exhilarating, the kind of music that gets heads hammering and blood rushing.
You sort of have to take our word for it at this point, because the album won’t be released until the first of September this year by a trio of labels — Doomed Records, Raging Planet, and Selvajaria Records. But you don’t have to entirely take out word for it because today we’re bringing you an official video for a mad and monstrous song off the album named “Extermination Through Mutation“.
Before we get to that, we’ll share the band’s own comments about the new record as a whole:
“This upcoming album is possibly our most cohesive, direct, and violent to date, a nuclear bomb of Death/Thrash Metal, with our signature lyrical themes such as the horrors of war, biological and mass destruction weapons, greed, human corruption, and its destructive impact on the planet.”
Those themes come through in the words and the video for “Extermination Through Mutation” (filmed and produced by Pedro dos Santos de Sousa and Darkhammer Studios), though the video also gives us very good views of the Biolence devastators performing the music.
As trained medical professionals, we strongly advise you to stretch and loosen your neck muscles before listening to this song so as to avoid serious injury. (OK, we’re not really trained medical professionals, but the advice still stands because “Extermination Through Mutation” is a fucking neck-wrecker.)
A song that delivers monstrosity and madness… it does that too. In its changing sequences, it’s primitive and punishing, built from bestial bellowing and brutish rhythmic grooves that hit like piledrivers trading places with jackhammers (the main source of neck trauma), but madness also erupts in viciously drilling tremolo’d chords, blasting drums, and hair-raising screams.
The song reaches even greater heights of madness through a spiraling and strafing guitar solo that’s electrifying to hear, backed by brazen, blaring riffage and skull-splitting percussion.
One more warning: the song is also virally infectious, so be prepared to keep hitting Play repeatedly.
Violent Obliteration was recorded and produced at Darkhammer Studios, who also oversaw all sound and visual elements. For more info about the album and how to get it as that info becomes available, follow the locations linked below — and then after the links be sure to check out the previously released Biolence lyric video for another song off the new album, “Pit of Degradation“.
