(Our contributor Zoltar wishes to draw your attention to developments in the grimy and gruesome Rotpit camp, including a new EP and an expanded full lineup now at work on a new album.)
Thanks to the internet, the scene has been flooded over the last decade or so by super-groups – or whatever you wanna call those sometimes intercontinental collaborations of musicians from all over the world, each of them delivering their parts in their respective home studios before getting somebody to piece them altogether et voilà. Too often, said collaborations prove to be a tad lackluster as, let’s face it, nothing beats getting the whole gang together in one sweaty rehearsal room to bang their instruments innit?
Thankfully, some of those more or less ‘bands’ beg to differ. And not only did ROTPIT released two splendid downtuned-as-fuck slimy full-lengths and two split EPs but they’ve gone the extra mile by actually turning this once studio-only thing into a fully functioning five-piece band. Both Ralf Hauber from REVEL IN FLESH and former MASSACRE and WOMBBATH vocalist Jonny Pettersson started collaborating together in HEADS FOR THE DEAD in 2017 but felt like churning out something even uglier, hence giving birth to ROTPIT.
After the release of their killer second album Long Live The Rot in 2024, they got invited to play the Party San Festival in Germany the following summer. Joining Hauber, Pettersson and drummer Erik Barthold from veteran doomsters LEFT HAND SOLUTION were Fredrik Ringström from VHOLDGHAST on lead guitar and Rickard Persson from tech masters SOREPTION on bass. In order to have something new to sell at the merch table and celebrate their live debut, the ROTPIT core trio recorded a new EP last June.

Pressed in 300 copies, it features one new track “Sore Parade” and a cover of the infamous “Suicide Fuck” originally included on the ABSCESS debut album Urine Junkies and already covered by DEPRESSION, MACHETAZO or AFTERBIRTH.
Speaking to NCS, Hauber talks about the title-track as a “completely new track that delivers all trademarks of our rotten soundscape formula, with hideous dark parts and uptempo parts. Listening to it will make you feel like some disease crawling underneath your skin. The ABSCESS song is one their most obvious GG Allin influenced track. And for those of you who know their classics, you’ll probably recognize the nod to the PESTILENCE Consuming Impulse album in the cover artwork.”
In order to get their collective juices flowing prior to their Party San performance, they played a show in Sundsvall, Sweden since Hauber (the only non-Swede in the band) had landed there a few days to prior to rehearse with the rest of the band. Feeling like they’ve just “opened a new chapter”, the latter can now confirm that both Ringstöm and Persson have been confirmed as official members of the band and have already started working on their upcoming third full-length.
In the meantime, you can check out the Sore Parade EP here or through the band’s Bandcamp. Ralf says: “The cover artwork is from ROTTEN HEAD, a new artist to our universe…. Play it loud and enjoy.“
