We’re about to premiere the debut EP of a Finnish duo who call themselves DEATHFUCKINGWOUND. To introduce it, we begin with the band’s own statement of intent:

“While the world is currently being courted by flames ignited by weak men wielding unfathomable power only paralleled by their insatiable greed and corrupt lust for land and wealth that isn’t theirs, art can be used as a bridge between the oppressed and the beaten, to be then deployed as a weapon against the aforementioned flaccid figures hiding in their ivory towers. Those towers burn, too. Everything burns.

“Our objective is to harness our own strengths into a tangible aural form that is equally unyielding and full of rage as the free spirits craving for the flesh of the sovereigns poisoning this world. VOID MMXXV is a documented moment in time that hopefully reaches many minds alike, representing merely the firsts steps taken towards our own caustic annihilation.”

With those motivations fueling them, this duo of EOH (guitars, vocals) and EEMV (drums) worked furiously. They wrote the six songs on VOID MMXXV over the course of two weeks and recorded it in a third one. As they say, “From nothing to flesh in four weeks.”

Those six songs blaze by, none of them reaching the three-minute mark, each of them a channel of violent rage. Press “Play” and screaming feedback will greet you, followed by a ruthless audio beating. “Visceral Chaos Agitation” brutishly pounds and simultaneously swarms the senses with caustic, viciously writhing riffage. Mad howls furiously bray and bay at the moon. The song is punctuated with thunderous rhythmic hammer blows that are especially traumatic, and it ascends to a closing convulsion of destructive chaos.

From that launching point DEATHFUCKINGWOUND continue to roil and rampage, inflicting furiously hammering drums, gale-force riffing that abrades like sandstorms, and unhinged screams. The rapidly churning riffage is massive, viciously distorted, and wholly engulfing — on the bleeding edge of going out of control. The vocals are always out of control, whether bellowing, barking, or screaming out blood spray.

What keeps the songs from careening into oblivion are the band’s use of rhythmic accents — swift stops and starts, sudden changes of pace, and machine-gun bursts of percussive discharge, but mainly the kind of cold-blooded, brute-force stomping that sounds heavy and hard enough to flatten anything in its path (you might also think of those pulverizing blows as the sound of immense battering rams methodically bringing down castle gates).

They also deploy other kinds of accents to keep listeners on their toes — weirdly squirming, pulsating, or wailing injections of noise; chords that dismally sizzle or whine as they reverberate; and voices that seem to wail in agony. At times, the maniacally vibrating riffs sound bleak and broken instead of berserk.

In more prosaic terms, DEATHFUCKINGWOUND draw from ingredients of death metal, grindcore, black metal, and noise to create results entirely in keeping with their stated mission — a cathartic expression of unfiltered and annihilating rage. It’s exhilarating to hear it. It may be good medicine for what ails you too.

The cover art of VOID MMXXV was lifted from a Goya painting. The music was mixed and mastered by SV. It will be out on October 7th, on tape in conspiracy with the Iron Corpse label. It comes recommended for fans of Antichrist Siege Machine, Teitanblood, Altarage, and Primitive Warfare.
