After the release of their self-titled debut album in 2017, the Saskatchewan-based doom/sludge band Destroy My Brains embarked on a four-record sequence whose titles (the first letter of each one) spelled out the word “W.I.L.T.”. The last of those albums, Tormented, was released in 2022. And now Destroy My Brains are following that sequence with a devastating new album that is itself named Wilt, which will be released at some point during the coming summer.

The band say the new album “features 7 collosal slabs of filth and spans over 1 hour of unrelenting destroy time.” Their guitarist/vocalist Jarret has shared a few more thoughts about it:

Wilt is a representation of everything we have ever wrote before, and it means everything that Destroy My Brains has ever stood for from the beginning. Nothing has changed and our message remains clear and the same. We have always wrote about the hate for authorities and society, the corrosion of standards, represtations of nihilism, and the destruction of self and others. We have always been a fuck the world band and we still are.

These songs, 12 years later from the band’s beginnings still carry that same weight and message. The songs are a self-destructive collage of pain and suffering, and on this album we touch on some very deep personal themes as well. Get ready to get sucked down a twisting tunnel of destruction, as our sonic filth degrades and devolves you.

Speaking of devolving, what we have for you today is the premiere of Wilt’s first single, and its name is “Decontribute“.

Lyrically, this is a hateful and hopeless screed, the vicious and fatalistic thoughts of someone falling apart and drowning in intoxicants. Here are the final lines:

PEEL, PAINT FROM THE WALLS
KICK HOLES, THROUGH LAYERS OF DRYWALL
WEIGH MY DRUGS, AND TAKE THEM ALL
HOW LOW CAN I DRAG IT ALL DOWN IN THIS FALL
I AM RUST
I AM ROT
I DECONTRIBUTE TO REALITY

Even if you’re not familiar with Destroy My Brains’ usual modus operandi, it should come as no surprise at this point that the music is itself an amalgam of extreme fury and pain.

The riffing swarms like carnivorous insects; the bass brutally thunders; the drums cut like a dismembering ax; and the vocals sound like a screaming person being strangled, in arms with a growling pit bull.

As the song proceeds, the riffing segues into more dismal and desperate moods, the drums cut loose furious fusillades, and an eerily wafting melody deepens the song’s feelings of hopelessness. The riffing also seems to feverishly pulsate and miserably wail, a lead guitar quivers, and that deeply forlorn melody shivers again.

Yet somehow, the music becomes even more hopeless. The pace slows to a stagger, and the chords dismally clang and drag above thudding beats. When the pace accelerates again, viciously cutting tremolo’d riffing roils in torment, the drums sound like automatic weapons, and shrill guitar leads create sounds of chilling strangeness.

It bears further emphasizing that throughout the song, the vocals are incredibly intense, excruciatingly so, a traumatizing expulsion of fury and agony.

Wilt was recorded at Doom Tomb Recording Studio, and its wildly terrifying cover art is the work of Naufal Alwy. Here’s the track list:

OCI (obsessive compulsive imploder)
Burn the Virgin
Decontribute
Avulsion
Downgrade
Spill
Wilt

We don’t have an official release date yet, but we see that Destroy My Brains are taking pre-orders for the album and album-related merch via DM at Facebook. For more info, follow them at these places:
