Today we’re announcing that on November 11th Satanath Records (Georgia) and Bajo Tierra Records (Mexico) will co-release the third album from the Mexican death metal band Feathropod, which is a solo project founded in Querétaro by Armando Ríos. The name of the new album is Oathkeeper.

For those who might be unfamiliar with Feathropod, its music has evolved in a steady stream of releases that have elaborately embellished a death metal framework with ingredients of black metal, doom, and especially orchestral music.

Yet while “symphonic death metal” might be a decent genre label for Feathropod’s music, it might be a bit misleading for some listeners, because it might not adequately prepare them for the spectacles of sheer madness that Fearthropod is capable of creating. We have one such spectacle to share today in our premiere of a lyric video for the first single off the new album — “Lesser Carnivora“.

Feathropod has drawn inspiration from horror literature, cinema, cosmic horror, occultism, and mythology, and this particular song is indeed a lyrical horror. Its protagonist is some ghastly supernatural entity that’s apparently insane and ravenous for human flesh in service of an unnamed master. It begs not to be left to consume only “lesser carnivora”.

The music is as violently deranged as the words. The derangement is made manifest in a variety of ways, following a chilling conversation that opens the song. The music is as fast as flame-driven rockets; it frantically blares and maniacally swirls above jet-fueled bass-notes and hyperdrive drumming; and the vocals are a fast-changing cavalcade of utterly crazed screams and rabidly barking growls.

There’s not one hint of sanity in this experience. Even the symphonic layers sound like sanity is being incinerated on a sweeping scale. Near the song’s mid-point an exhilarating solo flares and spasms, creating a different shade of madness — one that’s orgiastically ecstatic.

There’s no relent in the song’s hair-raising speed or in the unhinged nature of the vocals or in the intricate, blast-front explosiveness of the music and the vocals. So you’d best gulp some lung-fulls of air before punching Play below:

Satanath and Bajo Tierra will release Oathkeeper on a jewel-box CD edition with an 8-page booklet, and digitally. For more info, keep an eye on the locations linked below.
