Transcending Obscurity Records doesn’t often release splits, but on November 20th they’re dropping one that’s likely to leave a smoking crater in the midst of the coming winter.

Aptly titled Indomitable Hostility, the split joins together new songs from two death metal ravagers whose forward-thinking music you should already know — Replicant from New Jersey and Elitist from Denmark. And if somehow you haven’t yet discovered these bands, this album-length split provides a great jumping-on point for both of them.

Today we’re premiering one of Elitist’s new songs — a creatively chaotic mind-boggler and skull-buster called “To Unsee, To Untether” — and early next week we’ll do the same for one of Replicant’s new tracks.

Elitist quickly made a big mark with their debut album A Mirage of Grandeur in 2023 on the Indisciplinarian label, and their side of Indomitable Hostility includes their first new music since then, four songs that build upon the strong impressions of their debut.

Chaos immediately rages in “To Unsee, To Untether“, a distressing form of mayhem generated by ferocious drumming, viciously gnashing chords, and dissonant riffing that frantically whines. Beastly gutturals which flare into rabid howls expel the words as the riffing further convulses and feverishly contorts.

The rhythm section maintain head-moving grooves, but the guitars continue to spin heads with a clear-toned solo that magically swirls and soars and a slower-paced riff that both brutally jolts and morbidly brays. When the drums go mad again, so does the music, discharging another fleet-fingered but utterly berserk spasm of lunacy and then whining and wailing again in a seeming conjunction of derangement and misery.

And while your mind is still trying to piece itself back together again, Elitist end the song in a much more hallucinatory and chilling way that will jangle nerves even more.

ELITIST Lineup:
Thomas Fischer (Dysgnostic) – Bass, Vocals
Simon Stenbæk – Guitar, Vocals
Rasmus Moesby – Guitar
Niclas Sauffaus – Drums

Elitist’s new songs were recorded, engineered, and mixed by KB Larsen, and they were mastered by AJ Viana at AJ Viana Productions. The split’s attention-seizing cover art was created by Alex Eckman-Lawn.

Transcending Obscurity will release Indomitable Hostility on multiple formats and with lots of related merch, and you can peruse the offerings via the links below; at Bandcamp you can also hear one more song from each band on the split. T.O. recommends it for fans of: Gorguts, Ulcerate, Morbid Angel, Dysgnostic, Carbon Tomb, and Xenosis.
