As trained medical professionals, we need to warn those of you who took in our first premiere on this Bandcamp Friday that this next one is likely to produce a severe whiplash effect with traumatic consequences for necks and heads.
Okay, just joking, we’re not trained medical professionals, just ardent metal fans — but the warning still stands because the change you’re about to experience is sudden and startling.
The authors of the change are the U.S. triumvirate Dissect the Masses, which includes members of Fleshbore, Unaligned, Abyssalis, and Demon King in the lineup, and the song we’re bringing you is from their debut album A Vile Disfigurement in advance of its December 11 release by our friends at Transcending Obscurity Records.

Let’s begin by sharing what T.O. has said about the band’s music:
Their blackened tech death metal is intense yet epic; the music furiously builds up momentum in their songs to invariably culminate in dramatic fashion. This is a recurring motif, balancing pummelling music and technical wizardry with atmospheric and catchy hooks.
That all holds true in the case of “The Harvesters Return“, the song we’re now premiering through a lyric video that makes good use of the album’s hideous cover art.
The vividly vibrating and insidiously swarming riffage and thundering percussive cannonades immediately channel vicious madness, and the gritty and savagely gutting vocals bring wild, beastly horrors to mind.
Madness further blooms as the riffing spurts like an opened vein and darts like bats in flight, while the bass slugs and the drums continuously shift their forms of electrifying rhythmic punishment. The vocals also begin to manifest in varying macabre forms, all of them ugly and unhinged.
But the riffing also shifts in a way that seems to channel desperation, and the lead guitar eerily warbles and wails its way through a solo that sounds like a rendition of pain and further despair — but also perhaps like the ecstasies of some unearthly entity beyond our plane of existence, because that is indeed the kind of vision the music begins to conjure as it soars and swirls in the song’s explosive closing phase.
It’s worth underscoring that all the performers, including the session drummer, are technically very impressive, even though what they’re doing is crazed.
