Today we gladly reunite with the music of the Polish “Subcarpathian Black Metal” band Kalt Vindur. We’ve been writing about and recommending their music since discovering their second album …And Nothing Is Endless in 2020. They followed that with a quartet of singles in 2023 and then their third album Magna Mater in 2024, which led to our Andy Synn’s laudatory review of that album and our Comrade Aleks’ interview of Kalt Vindur guitarist Artur Szydło.
The occasion for today’s reunion is our premiere of a video of the band performing a song from the band’s forthcoming fourth album, The Void of Time, which is set for a November 27 release by The Circle Music. This is the third single released so far, and its name is “In Silence“.

Kalt Vindur have already earned a reputation for their songwriting prowess, a talent for dynamically harnessing changing experiences and moods in ways both immediately immersive and formidably memorable. Their new album strongly fortifies that reputation. Here is part of what the band have said about it:
“The Void Of Time is a natural continuation of the previous one, Magna Mater, and follows in the tradition of musical diversity and exploring various themes in the lyrics, such as a fascination with nature, quantum physics, and personal emotional experiences… While composing the new album, we were guided by the idea, that the songs despite their extreme form, namely, metal music, should be musically as possible and recognizable as songs
And we have this statement from Kalt Vindur concerning the song you’re about to hear:
“‘In Silence‘ hits the listener right from the start with a fast, intense riff accompanied by a powerful blast beat. As the song progresses, its raw energy begins to give way to more melodic passages that introduce a touch of space and contrast, without losing any of its original intensity. ‘In Silence‘ combines speed, aggression, and melody to create a cohesive, dynamic composition that keeps the listener on the edge of their seat from start to finish.”

As reported above, Kalt Vindur immediately ratchet up the intensity of “In Silence“, with drums flying, heads whipping, and frantically vibrating guitars rapidly writhing, rising, and falling. That lead riff generates an unsettling mood but gets its hooks in a listener’s head very fast, soon joined by vocalist Celsus’ raw and ferocious snarls.
Kalt Vindur’s drumming has always been one of the band’s strengths, and it stands out again here, shifting patterns continually (at times it sounds like giant boulders coming down in an avalanche). The riffing repeatedly but seamlessly changes too, soaring in ways that make the music sound even more despairing and emotionally wrenching, and the vocals somehow become even more explosively shattering as time passes.
It’s an excellent example of the band’s songwriting prowess mentioned above — its intensity and speed never relent, but the riffing dynamically changes, creating variations that generate changes in mood, and circles back to sink those riffs even deeper into the listener.
