In August of this year the Ottawa-based death metal band Harvested released their debut album Dysthymia. We were very happy to help spread the word in advance of the release by premiering a playthrough video for one of the album’s most electrifying groove-monsters, a song called “Synaptic Confusion” — very happy, because the album is such a killer release.

We weren’t the only people who thought so. Lots of other metal writers and fans have heaped praise on it both before and after its release. But of course, because Harvested is an independent and unsigned band there’s undoubtedly a lot of people who still don’t know what they’ve missed. We’ll make a further effort to help clue them in today with another video premiere, this time for a song off Dysthymia called “Gathered and Deluded“. Continue reading »

Your muscles are about to reflexively twitch, your head is about to hammer, your pulse is about to accelerate. Audio worms will slither into your ear canals and take up residence there. Some of your cranial neurons may start spinning, creating visions of fast devils and hulking monsters.

Harvested are an Ottawa-based quartet (with members from Quebec as well as Ontario) who are on the brink of releasing their self-titled debut EP, and it is indeed an explosive debut. Drawing influence from the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, and Hate Eternal, Harvested blast their way through five ferocious tracks that combine visceral destructive power, megawatt vocal intensity, and the kind of high-speed technically impressive performances that tend to pop eyes wide open.

That melding of speed, savagery, and technical fireworks makes the run through the full torrent of the EP an electrifying (and indeed breathtaking) experience, and it’s an experience we’re providing today through our premiere stream of the EP in its entirety.
