Thanks to Heavy Blog Is Heavy, I just found out that Mastodon has released a video that includes the entirety of Hunter, their new album scheduled for release next Tuesday. You can view it after the jump.

I decided not to delay this post by listening to and watching the stream. Please feel free to leave comments and let me know what you think. My fucking day job is probably going to stop me from immersing myself in this until tonight. So, let me know: Should I do that or should I watch the premiere of X Factor instead?

  1. Luckily, my day job is such that I’ve already listened to it twice. Skip the X Factor. This thing rocks.

  2. It’s different. I’ve listened twice now and the second time was a little more comfortable.

  3. People are going to HATE this. Dibs on the review.

    How did Mastodon become CCR?

  4. I’ve never been a fan of Mastodon, though I’ve never really tried to get into it, just randomly checked a song or two when I see it mentioned, which is quite often.

I listened to half of this whilst doing other stuff and it was okayish to say the least. I guess the biggest issue is, once again, the vocals. They aren’t bad, not at all, yet they aren’t enough to get me hooked.

A thought occurred to me: If the vocals were done by, say, Gojira’s Joe Duplantier I’d most likely love the stuff, especially the heavier and faster songs. Then again, I would probably worship any band that Joe is in.

  5. i liked the song Stargasm a lot, and i think it has the potential to become an instant Mastodon classic, the rest of the album was ok i guess, i wont judge it based on only one listen.

  6. I’m blown away! I’ve always loved Mastodon and to me, they can do no wrong.
