In May of this year the one-person black metal band Voidhra from southern Germany self-released its debut EP, Sorrow Guides Us All. No doubt some people discovered what a fantastic release that was, but it also undoubtedly passed under the radars of lots of listeners (sadly including us). But it’s about to make a much wider and deeper impression through a new release set for October 29th by the Crawling Chaos label.

To help spread the word we’re today premiering the title song from this four-track, 30-minute EP. It has become the basis for our own discovery of Voidhra, and what an astonishing discovery it has been. The song we’re premiering today channels tremendous visceral power, with an intense emotional impact, and its bleak yet incendiary melodies prove to be very memorable.

Mid-paced at first, the song rings, the guitars blazing over head-hammering drums and a heavy thrusting bass line. The melody sounds both despairing and defiant, and the track gets the listener’s pulse pumping right away. The chords blare, the arpeggios spiral and shiver, and the vocals add to the track’s extravagant intensity through savage snarls and scorching screams.

The drums blast, bound, and boom, propelling the speed to higher gears, and the searing impact of the riffing, which comes in fiery waves, moves higher into the red zone. The overall effect of the song becomes even more harrowing, even more anguished and delirious, and the refrain of the magnetic riffing burrows ever more deeply into the mind as it repeats. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget:

Pre-sales for Sorrow Guides Us All will start on September 24th through the Crawling Chaos webshop, and on September 25th on Bandcamp. The links are below.
