It’s been a long pause since the Australian death metal band Revulsed released their slaughtering debut album (Infernal Atrocity) in 2015. The band hasn’t been completely silent since then. A live album emerged in 2017, along with a scattering of cover songs (digitally compiled in 2019) featuring Revulsed‘s take on tracks by Cannibal Corpse, Testament, Death, and Gorguts.

But at long last Revulsed are now returning with another album or original music, this one entitled Cerebral Contamination, and Everlasting Spew Records will be releasing it on December 15th. To help pave the way, today we’re bringing you a track from the new album named “Beyond The Depths Of The Subconscious“.

The song begins with a slow, moody, and subtly menacing bass melody, an interesting way to set the stage for the decimation that follows. And what follows is a head-spinning and body-bruising experience in ruthless and ruinous madness.

Revulsed administer feverishly jackhammering punishment, bursts of shrieking fretwork, and hideous guttural gurgling. The riffing also darts about in displays of murderous delirium and grinds and gouges the senses as well. As as if the song didn’t sound mad enough already, it also includes a fret-melting solo that swirls, swoops, and dives.

After the solo spends itself, the thuggish, pile-driving punishment continues, but so do the freaked-out fretwork escapades, the neck-snapping snare-work, and those monstrous guttural expulsions — with a return of soft tones of supernatural seduction to close things out.

And so the song is damned mean and damned brutal, but also technically impressive in its channeling of asylum-borne ecstasies.

Everlasting Spew recommends Cerebral Contamination for fans of Suffocation, Inveracity, Cannibal Corpse, and Defeated Sanity.

They’re releasing the album on multiples formats: CD, cassette tape, and digital, with vinyl coming in the spring of 2024. It all features the fantastically ghastly cover art made by Aditia Wardhana.
