As their name suggests, Dethrashed are a death/thrash band. Having been founded just last year in Tbilisi, Georgia, they’re a new group (and a young one), but they’ve wasted no time in showing listeners what they can do. They independently released their debut album Existence Under Pressure in May of this year, and they’ve already got a second one waiting on the launch pad.

The name of their second album is The Weight Of The Vortex, and it will be released by Satanath Records on October 20th. To help spread the word, today we’re premiering a song from the album called “Avaritia“.

The label has given us this description of the album’s lyrical themes:

Dethrashed’s lyrics focus on the dark side of human nature, exploring the moral principles, flaws, and sins that people carry within them. The musicians transform everyday human problems and internal battles into heavy, loud music….

The Weight of the Vortex is built on pure rage, confronting the sins, flaws, and moral decay that people deny exist. Greed, betrayal, weakness, corruption — each track hits like a blunt reaction to what garbage-humans do to each other. No pent-up effort, no soft edges, and no compromise.

Dethrashed’s opening riff in “Avaritia” is ragged in tone and grim in mood. It both moans and feverishly skitters, creating tension as it does so, and then the band suddenly dial up the volume and the intensity. Those moaning tones extravagantly blare, those feverish jitters begin to jolt, and the drums and bass add to the music’s jolting impact.

Just in time for scorching vocals to announce themselves, the drumming moves into a punkish rocking beat that should get heads moving. Dethrashed also move back into darker moods with beastly death growls, dismal riffing, and lurching grooves. They also repeatedly shift the tempos, slowing down to create a hulking sonic menace which they then accent with an eerie but attention-seizing guitar solo, and then accelerate into another jarring charge.

The song is loaded with compulsive hooks, visceral grooves, and dynamic shifts, and Dethrashed dig the hooks into listeners even deeper as they reprise the song’s various refrains in the closing minute or so.

DETHRASHED are:
Taturashvili Alexandre – vocals
Bedoidze Alex – guitars
Mamaladze Sandro – guitars
Mamulashvili Ani – bass
Gogichadze Dito – drums

The Weight Of The Vortex features artwork by Dark Blessed. It was mastered by Robert Romagna (Audiostahl).

Satanath Records will release the album digitally and in a jewel-case CD edition limited to 500 copies. For more info about Dethrashed and their new album as the release date approaches, visit the locations linked below.
