Abnormality-Mechanisms of Omniscience

Just about 10 days ago we excitedly reported about the advent of the title track to the first album since 2012 by Abnormality from Massachusetts — Mechanisms of Omniscience — which is coming our way on April 29 via Metal Blade Records. And now we get to bring you the premiere of the new album’s opening track: “Swarm“.

You’d better be sitting down before punching the play button on “Swarm”, because it detonates like a megaton warhead right from the start.

The speed of the song is breath-taking. It’s propelled by a stunning drum performance that spits snare hits like an automatic weapon and launches double-bass bursts that resemble massed ranks of mortars all going off at once. True to the song’s title, the riffs are a frenzied swarm — absolutely vicious and eviscerating — and they’re matched by the high-octane machinations of the bassist and the rapid-fire barks of the she-beast who wields the mic.

If you read the PR hype for this album, you’ll see references to Abnormality capturing “the speed and unrelenting viciousness of Hate Eternal and Origin” and infusing it “with grooves and hooks more reminiscent of Suffocation and Deeds of Flesh“. But in this case, that ain’t hype. If anything, it’s an understatement. “Swarm” is downright lethal.

The new album is available for digital pre-order on Bandcamp, and for info about ordering a physical copy, visit the first link below:

In other Abnormality news, the band will soon be embarking on a U.S. tour with Soulfly, the afore-mentioned Suffocation, Battlecross, and Lody Kong. You can see the dates below, after our premiere of “Swarm” (and we’re also including a stream of the album’s title track for those who missed it the first time).

  1. Awesome !! I can’t wait to get this 🙂

  2. Sounds badass.

  3. The first track didn’t really grab me when I first heard it, but now both tracks are digging in their hooks pretty sturdily.
