In February of this year we had the pleasure of premiering a song (“From the Abyss”) from the then-forthcoming second album by a London-based band named Beautality. The album’s name is Einfallen: A Tale Ov Torment & Triumph, and today we bring you the premiere of an official video for the album’s striking title track, “Einfallen“.
The video was directed, filmed, and edited by Dan Giannopoulos in his guise as Italian horror maestro Dario Pimento, and it includes excerpts from such horror films as The Satanic Rites of Dracula, Profundo Rosso, and Horror Express, along with appearances by Beautality’s mastermind David Ravengarde and Suzy Griffiths (aka Suzy Nola). The video is really a 14-minute short film that, in the director’s words, is “a nightmarish and visceral vision of lust, insanity and redemption”, telling the “brutal story of a love that goes too far”, “a love that takes a man to the very pit of hell”.
“Einfallen” is an amazing song, one of my favorites of 2015. Like the album as a whole, it weaves together strands of different musical and vocal styles to produce something that resists attempts to pigeonhole it with a genre label. It’s gorgeous and entrancing, dark and dramatic, heavy and harsh. There’s a moody, dreamlike quality to the track, but it also rocks hard, blasts ferociously, and soars aloft like a gliding raptor. It’s very easy to be carried away by “Einfallen”…
… and this new video is a great visual match for the song, capturing its dreamlike, hallucinatory qualities and drawing out elements of gothic horror that I realized were always lurking in the music only after watching the video. The pairing of the music and the visuals creates a thoroughly engrossing feast for the senses. I’m delighted that we’re able to bring it to you.
Einfallen: A Tale Ov Torment & Triumph can be ordered on CD or purchased as a digital download from Nordavind Records at this location, and I’m including a stream of the entire album below the new video:
