Our friend Tito Vespasiani from Everlasting Spew Records (and other metal endeavors) is back with another weekly playlist of recommended heavy songs. This second one, like the first one last week, includes 20 tracks, with commentary about a few of them below. The full stream is at the end, and on Spotify here.

Defleshed – Grind Over Matter

Defleshed is BACK!

“Who?” Some fans out there could say. Oh come on, DEFLESHED! Under the Blade! One of the best thrashy death bands ever, grindy at times (like in this album) and one of the most aggressive and crushing bands as always.

I feel bad for this album not getting much recognition over the last year despite being out via a massive label like Metal Blade. OSDM is thriving these days and the new sensation (that will probably be forgotten after a couple of months, with the fancy colored vinyl promptly re-sold) will get most of the attention, but trust me: don’t sleep on this.

Severe Torture – Fisting the Sockets

Balance is key and it’s a rare craft. There are many brutal bands, many old school ones, many (add adjectives) and only a few that balance all aspects so well. Severe Torture does and they recently returned with a new Ep!

Great, catchy riffs, tasty blast beats but never reaching 300 BPM, guttural vocals but understandable enough and not ultra gurgly. Balance. Delicious balance. Like any good recipe, it takes quite some mastery to find the proper equilibrium to deliver the right dish.

Murder Construct – Compelled By Mediocrity

Members of Cattle Decapitation, Phobia, Exhumed, and Intronaut? Woah, count me in.
I remember this track making some waves back when it was released, especially for its anti-djent message, or so it was explained on the original premiere. What I do remember though is this being a really great album packed with blistering moments but also intense, hurtful moments/melodies/lyrics (see “Red All Over” or “The Next Life”).

Torture Division – Left For Dead

Pure fucking rage. That’s it. I won’t indulge much into this, this is simply death metal. It’s enthusiasm ( the “let’s go!” shout mid track), it’s fury, it’s energy. And this is the best Swedish band you didn’t hear of.

Bones – Twilight Divination

This is one of the best “new” death metal bands around if you ask me. This song serves as a perfect introduction, check those sweet Morbid Angel Altars of Madness hints in the tune. Check out this album.

Aeon – God Ends Here

Oh my, how long did we wait for a new Aeon album? We did and we did hard and when it finally came out… it kinda just did? Don’t get me wrong: it’s pretty tasty and never INCREDIBLE and that’s not their aim probably, none of their albums is (altho damn enjoyable), point is that with all the new releases it’s hard to keep your attention on a specific one.

Add that after such a long wait fans could expect more and that the scene has changed since Aeons Black (2012): the rising oversaturation of tech death, the new rise of a certain ODSM, maggot stomp core and so on… New interests and new fans could not even be familiar with this band.

Well, while this doesn’t reinvent the wheel nor will it change your world, it’s still an album you gotta check. This track in particular. Strongly recommended for a good strength workout!

Monstrosity – Destroying Divinity

Extremely influential and never praised enough especially in an album like this which introduced a lot of melody without compromising the brutality and featured a great, strongly recognizable vocalist (something pretty rare, it gets hard to pick one vocalist from the other sometimes, especially with all the current studio magic or pure and simple imitation).
