Agalloch – Into The Painted Grey / In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion from (((unartig))) on Vimeo.

I finally got to see Agalloch play a live show in Seattle on the Winter Solstice last December. I was so overwhelmed by the experience that I frothed all over the place in an NCS post. Among other frothy things, I wrote: “I’ll say it briefly, but from the heart: I’ve never heard live metal better than Agalloch’s performance. A very few shows I’ve seen are in the same league, but none has been better. It was a long set — one that began at midnight and lasted almost an hour and a half, but I still wasn’t ready for it to end. I was dazed for long after the show ended.”

If you haven’t had the chance to see this band yet, you can at least watch some very high-quality footage of their show on March 22, 2011, at the Poisson Rouge in NYC. This clip includes two long jams, “Into the Painted Grey” and “In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion”. The clip is more than 20 minutes long. Worth every minute.

  1. can’t watch yet — I get to see them Tomorrow!!!

  2. See, you complained about me getting to see Ulver, but it’s more than likely I’ll never get to see Agalloch live.

I know it’s not exactly the same, but it’s still disappointing!

    • Agalloch do venture over to Europe every few years, or at least that’s what I vaguely remember. Not full EU-UK tours, but selected places. They don’t even tour in the US except once in a blue moon. But I wonder if I will ever get to see Ulver live.

      • Someone should start an internet poll to get Tool to bring Ulver over as support act (much as has been done to try and get Ihsahn over with Opeth).

I think that would work perfectly.

  3. I’m taking a pilgrimage this weekend to Chicago to finally see them! And yeah, I can’t (won’t!) watch any of the live clips on the YouTube/Vimeo/etc. yet either!

  4. i would give both my testicles to see these guys play live, it must be a truly haunting experience.

  5. Okay…I’ll say it.

    Agalloch is…EPIC…

I’ve been a fan for 10 years now. I’ve never been to the point where I’ve ever sick of hearing their stuff. Goddamn they give me goosebumps.

For me Opeth = #1 and Agalloch = #2 on my list of all time favorites…
