Recommended for fans of: Nile, Mithras, Decrepit Birth

First off… no, I’m not going to be typing out the band’s full name.

For one thing, they’re mostly known by the shortened version, Eximperitus, anyway.

And, for another… c’mon people, there’s only so many hours in the day/days in the week/weeks in the month, and by the time I’d have finished typing it for the third or fourth time it would probably be mid-March.

Suffice it to say, however, that this band… by any other name… would still be as brutal, as technical, and as mind-bending, and more than capable of goig toe-to-toe with the likes of Origin or Wormed, Wormhole or Defeated Sanity, or absolutely any of the very best of the Brutal/Technical Death Metal scene.

AN NCS PREMIERE: EXIMPERITUS — “GOLDEN CHAINS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF INDIVIDUAL GREATNESS”

We haven’t forgotten that the full name of Eximperitus is Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum. How could we forget? And it’s obvious from their logo up there, isn’t it? But we’ll play along with the abbreviation, especially since that seems to be the preference of the band’s label Willowtip Records.

We also haven’t forgotten the 36-word title of this Belarusian band’s 2016 debut album, though we couldn’t recite it even at gunpoint, any more than we could recite Eximperitus’ full name. Their 2021 sophomore album — Šahrartu — was easier on the tongue, as were all the one-word song titles. Their forthcoming third album, Meritoriousness of Equanimity, is pronounceable, even though it quadruples the number of syllables compared to the title of the second full-length.

However, Eximperitus have mostly reverted to form in their song names on the new one. Many are quite long, and all of them are, for want of a better word… mysteriously exotic. Take, for example, the name of the song we’re premiering today — “Golden Chains for the Construction of Individual Greatness” — although it’s tidy compared to Track No. 7 on Meritoriousness of Equanimity:

“Molecular Disintegration of an Unattainable Solitary Will in a Vessel of Wisdom…as a Result of the Soul’s Aspiration to Break the Summed Up Set of Delusions of Reason… in the Course of a Personal Experience of Accepting the Imperfection of the World and Proving that Time Gets Rid of the Fragile and Leaves Invulnerable” Continue reading »

For you music lovers out there who just crawled out from under a rock, yesterday was a Bandcamp Friday, the last one of 2025. During those 24 hours we received more than 300 e-mails in the NCS in-box, at least half of them Bandcamp alerts, and that’s not counting the flood of digital traffic that rolled in the day before. Many of the messages were about music that had just been released.

I figure I have about a 50/50 success rate in getting new-music roundups posted on Bandcamp Fridays, which for obvious reasons would be an ideal time for them. Yesterday goes in the failure column. Just couldn’t get it done yesterday, what with other distractions getting in the way and the desirability of allowing Andy Synn’s list-week pre-launch to be our last post of the work-week.

I do feel guilty, but would have felt guilty anyway: Even rounding up a handful of new songs yesterday wouldn’t have made a very big dent in the wall of new tracks that slammed down this past week. Today’s roundup is just a modest dent too, but hopefully sufficient to start your weekend off with a dented skull. As usual, I’ll attempt to do additional cranial denting (of a more consistently blackened variety) tomorrow. Continue reading »

I guess you noticed that we didn’t post anything new at the site on Saturday or Sunday. In 12+ years of our existence that has happened only a couple of other times. I went to holiday events on Friday and Saturday nights, got trashed at both of them, and spent the days after in a state of crippling mental and physical disability. So that’s the explanation in a nutshell.

There’s obviously a lot of catching up to do in the race for staying on top of new songs and videos, which explains why I’ve resorted to this OVERFLOWING STREAMS format. I made a conscious effort to include a fair share of black metal since I failed to post a SHADES OF BLACK column yesterday. Speaking of which, if you haven’t noticed I’ll mention the good news that a new Funeral Mist album is set for release on December 17th HERE (it appears that it will be released in its entirety that day, without any advance song streams).

IMMOLATION (U.S.)

I thought about alphabetizing this collection, as I usually do, but I have to begin with Immolation. Last week one of the best death metal bands of all time divulged a video for the first single from a new album, and it’s a breathtaker — explosive, blazing, bludgeoning, exotic, and crazed. (This is Aleksha McLoughlin‘s review of the new album by the Belarusian band Eximperitus, which was released by Willowtip Records on January 29th.)

Eximperitus are a band who have not only lived up to their hype and mystique but surpassed all expectations on Šahrartu in every way imaginable.

It’s been five long years since the band released their full-length debut, and all that time away has resulted in not a second wasted. On their newest release, Eximperitus have focused on atmospherics, dynamics, and an ingenious use of layering to create music that genuinely sounds as alien as the imagery. Continue reading »

AN NCS PREMIERE: EXIMPERITUS — “TAHÂDU”

On the 23rd of April, 2016, I discovered a band from Minsk, Belarus, whose name was Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum and promptly wrote (here) about a newly released track from their debut album, the name of which, in truncated form, was:

Prajecyrujučy Sinhuliarnaje Wypramieńwańnie Daktryny Absaliutnaha J Usiopahłynaĺnaha Zła Skroź Šaścihrannuju Pryzmu Sîn​​-​​Ahhī​​-​​Erība Na Hipierpawierchniu Zadyjakaĺnaha Kaŭčęha Zasnawaĺnikaŭ Kosmatęchničnaha Ordęna Palieakantakta​​.​​​.​​.

On our Facebook page a note was left explaining that, in English, this means “Projecting the singular emission ov the Doctrine ov Absolute and All-Absorbing Evil through the hexahedral prism ov Sîn-Ahhī-Erība upon the hypersurface ov zodiacal arc ov the cosmotechnical order ov paleocontact founders the utterly ancient hypostases ov pre-axes civilizations actuate the resonance transformer ov temporally similar to the eternity ov the future in the towers ov Nwn-Hu-Kek-Amon’s obcervatory embodying the ashes ov Alulim into the ethereal matter to the west ov exoplanet PSRB 1620-26b”.

As I wrote at the time, the song I had found kicked massive amounts of ass, even if its title, and that of the album, and that of the band, were guaranteed to defeat all efforts of the human mouth to shape the letters into sound.

More than one year later I found myself in the position of premiering a song from the band’s next release, an EP whose title was far briefer, though no less cryptic: W2246-0526.

And then after that, in 2019, Eximperitus (even with copy/paste functionality I’d rather use this shortened form) released a single named “Tahâdu” that I managed to overlook. “Tahâdu” is also the name of an Eximperitus track that we’re premiering today, and I’m okay using the term “premiere” because I haven’t attempted to determine (and may not be able to determine) whether this is the same song that appeared earlier or has been revised in some way. In any event, it comes from a new Eximperitus album named Šahrartu, which seems to be the Sumerian word for “Devastation”. It will be released by Willowtip on January 29, 2021. Continue reading »

Seventeen months ago I posted a track from an album by a band from Minsk, Belarus, named:

Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum

Were it not for the copy/paste function, my hands would have been paralyzed trying to type that. My entire body would have become paralyzed if I had attempted to type the full title of the song, or the album title, which consists of a great volume of words and a seemingly endless string of letters. I had no clue what any of it meant, though a comment on our Facebook page at the time explained:

Thankfully, the title of the new release by… let’s just call them Eximperitus… is far briefer, though no less cryptic: W2246-0526.
