I guess I made the title of this post really long so I wouldn’t need to write as much in the body of the post. I guess I also felt that with DGR posting the new videos from Storm Corrosion and Epica, I needed to post something really rancid and disgusting, y’know, to provide balance. I guess the UK’s Flayed Disciple was reading my mind, because this afternoon they served up just the thing.

Phro reviewed this band’s new album Death Hammer for us here. Among other things, he wrote: “They’ve successfully taken the thrash groove riffing and drumming (which I like), gotten rid of the thrash vocals (which annoy the shit out of me), added some modern death metal elements, and got a growler who sounds like he lives in the bottom of a well. Not because he has nowhere else to live, because, fuck you, he likes it closer to hell.”

“Closer to hell” could have been the sub-title for this video. Of course, the song is called “Shrine of Dahmer”. The video includes all those things I mentioned in the post title, plus lots of other nauseating images, which of course made it irresistible. It’s not safe for work, unless you work in a slaughterhouse.

Dead Parrot Productions made the video.

Death Hammer is due for release on May 28. Here are band links:

  1. Sweeeet

  2. They should have got a packinghouse to sponsor the video.

“Sponsored by Blahblah Packinghouse: where the meat is as fresh as anything was in Dahmer’s fridge.”

  3. I like the song (as Phro said, those little tweaks and changes have improved them tenfold) but appear to be the only one who thinks the video is terrible. The cuts are rough and seem badly placed, the shots of the band members seem to come from a different video (and are, occasionally, unintentionally hilarious) and the whole thing just reeks of an amateurish “ooh, look at how shocking we can be!” without anything realy shocking…

Blame the shitty weather for my negativity.

  4. the comment above this is hilarious…what planet do you live on!? the cuts are pretty obv in time to the music and the band look great. How on earth are the band shots different to the narrative? I’m sorry, are you too blind/ignorant or dumb to notice the references i.e the table with meat, the fridge, the bloody bath?

    Amazing video and amazing band!

  5. I’m sorry, but how can this video be “ooh, look at how shocking we can be!” without anything realy shocking… ?

If that were it’s intent, it would be blatant about what is shows. It isn’t blatant, it simply references them.

Those references are done in an abstract, chaotic way, which to my mind, reflects the way many people would perceive the mindset of people like Dahmer.

This song, this video, the album are, to my mind, speaking out about the darker side of human nature and they do it very skillfully.

The video COULD, very easily, have been shocking, but it’s not.. it’s provocative. It leaves the viewr to use their own imagination.

    Class act!!
