Misantrof ANTIChristmas flyer

Christmas has been celebrated as a holy day for more than 1650 years. ANTIChristmas has been celebrated by Misantrof Records for seven years, and plans are now afoot for an eighth commemoration. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, or at least eight of them.

Don’t get me wrong — although Christmas holds no spiritual significance to me, there are many things about the holiday season that bring back fond memories. There are more things that make me want to puke — such as the advancement of Christmas music and advertising so that they now begin before Thanksgiving (at least here in the U.S.).

On the other hand, ANTIChristmas must begin now, because planning is necessary, even though there is no money to be made on this venture.

Marry ANTIChristmas

To be more clear to those who haven’t yet discovered the gifts of ANTIChristimas, the completely non-profit Misantrof Records prepares a free compilation every year as a slap in the face to holiday season bullshit.

Misantrof itself is a label that is run on a purely voluntary basis for the benefit of bands, who retain all rights to their own music. It was founded by Daniel Vrangsinn of Carpathian Forest and it is perpetuated by himself and a cadre of volunteers who share in his vision. (Contributions are welcome, and I do encourage them.)

To return to ANTIChristmas, Misantrof has been compiling a free release of music every holiday season for the last seven years. I have been a patron of these releases for many of those years, though not all of them, because I didn’t know about it. Which is one of the reasons I’m writing this post — SO THAT MORE PEOPLE WILL KNOW ABOUT IT (I HOPE).

Now, here comes the reason for this very early post. If you’re in a band or you know someone who is, and the band makes the kind of music that may leave blood and bone splinters in its wake, or at least shattered minds, Misantrof is requesting submissions of music for their eighth compilation. Here are the criteria for submissions to ANTIChristmas, and I quote from the Misantrof web site:

– Un released music ONLY

– That means: Previously released material is NOT accepted

– File format: Uncompressed wav is the only accepted format

– Include all needed info about your band (Biography, links to websites, social, pictures, everything, so we do not need to ask for more)

– Send the material before the end of November (30th) or you will not make it

– Send stuff – download link (dropbox, wetransfer, etc) to support@misantrof.net

– Have fun, and make Santa bleed!

And there you have it.

By the way, I may be stupid, but I’m not quite as dumb as a rock. I know in my black selfish heart that the more bands who send in their music to Misantrof, the stronger this next ANTIChristmas comp will be, and because it will be free, I will be in full-on hallelujah mode when the gift-giving day arrives.

This has become part of my own holiday tradition, and though I’ve written about these comps before, I’ve never before tried to help spread the word in advance. But I start now; the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

As you know, I hate to post anything on our site with music, so below you will find some songs from the latest releases by Misantrof — from Norway’s Air Raid Patrol and the Iranian band Helzgloriam (who I’ve written about before at our putrid site).
