(Our man Leperkahn continues forging ahead with some round-up posts while I pretend to be doing other things.)
I forgot I had this theme for an earlier round-up post, but we’ll return to it now.
I tend not to associate 20 Buck Spin with crossover thrash. Because of that, I avoided streaming the new track from Helsinki’s Foreseen at first, until I saw it later in an email from Islander. Short response from me would be feck me for not checking this out earlier, ‘cause this track absolutely rips.
What I had neglected to remember was that 20 Buck Spin pretty much always puts out kickass releases, and this one is no different, even if it’s a bit different than their normal fare. Anyway, if you like your thrash searing, sizzling, and ferocious, give the below track, “Death Injection”, a spin, and look for their debut album Helsinki Savagery on November 25.
We’ve talked pretty extensively about my hometown brethren in Ascended Dead – we’ve already reviewed their forthcoming EP here and premiered a song from it here. Recently, the whole EP went up for streaming on AD’s Bandcamp page. This thing is pretty damn heavy and vicious as a starving hyena. Check it out below – it’ll be well worth the 11-12 minutes you’d need to invest.
I’ll toss in one more item in this round-up, an EP I listened to for no other reason than because it happened to be streaming on the Deciblog. I tend to trust Decibel’s taste, and that turned out to be a great decision, as Castle Freak masterfully concoct a blend of horror-inflected death metal with just a touch of sludge (evident mostly in the vocals of Andrew Gigan).
You can stream the aforementioned EP at Decibel, and check out their previous demo via their Bandcamp below. I’ll also post a link to grab Still Rotting on cassette via Tridoid Records.
