NCS Best of 2015 graphic

(Our old friend from the Dominican Republic Vonlughlio once again brings us his list of the year’s best releases. It’s a Top 50 list, with honorable mentions as well, so we’re dividing it into two parts. We’ll bring you Part 2 tomorrow.)

So, the time of year has come for my Top 50 albums of 2015. This time around I’m going to divide the list in two. In this post the list will unfold until position 25. The second post will be from 24 to 1, and honorable mentions. The reason for dong this is that putting the entire list in one post might make it too long.

I would also like to say that this year I’ve been listening to more Brutal Death Metal than before. As I always say, some will hate it, others will like it. Regardless of that, please check out the bands, and I hope that if you do like them you will show your support. Well, here it goes: Continue reading »

NCS Best of 2015 graphic

(Our old friend and steadfast NCS supporter Vonlughlio has once again prepared his year-end list of albums, but first shares with us this list of his favorite EPs from 2015.)

First of all I want to start by thanking Islander for letting me do my end-of-year lists. Last year, for the first time I made my list of favorite albums up to 50, plus made a list of my favorite EPs and Honorable Mentions. This year I’m going to divide my year-end list into two posts. This first one will have my top 15 EPs and mentions of some of the places where I find new music. The second one will have my top 50 albums with the Honorable Mentions (when I’m done with that clusterfuck of a list  – J).

So, to give you an idea of my year, let’s just say that it has been more Brutal than others. Some might like my list, others will hate it, but I’m doing this for me and the bands I like.

Here are my Top 15 EPs of 2015: Continue reading »

Iniquitous Deeds-Incessant Hallucinations

(Our friend Vonlughlio returns with his second review in as many days, this time singing the praises of the debut album by Iniquitous Deeds.)

Back in 2012 or 2013 when I discovered New Standard Elite, there was a band named on the label named Iniquitous Deeds, with a self-titled EP that displayed amazing musicianship and a killer production that fit well in the BDM genre. Now, flash-forward to 2015 and the release of their debut album Incessant Hallucinations, which saw the light a couple of months ago. With all the BDM releases I’ve been fortunate enough to hear, this album is one of my top choices in the genre.

The band are from California and the members are Matt Kilner (Drums), Niko Kalajakis (Guitars), Mike Simon (Vocals), and Chris Stratton (Bass). They are all top-notch musicians and have simply put out an album that has become one of my favorite debuts, along with Abhorrent Castigation’s from last year. Continue reading »

Viscral-Egocentric Underneath

(Our friend Vonlughlio provides this guest review of the 2015 album by Indonesia’s Viscral.)

Viscral is an Indonesian death metal band that was formed in 2007 in Bekasi. The band line up is Eggi Pradia (vocals), Yogi Praja (drums), Adrel Jatnika (guitar), Dwiky Dzarendrastyo (bass), and Liga Radensha (lead guitar). The band play brutal death metal with influences like Pyaemia, Disavowed, and Suffocation.

In 2012, Viscral released a promo with five songs consisting of older versions of “From Their Carcass Arise”, “External Proletar”, “Pareidolia Haze of Illusory”, “Suffer Resurrection”, and “Worldviews Mechanical”. The promo was not released by a label, but in 2014 Rottrevore Records announced the signing of Viscral and subsequently released Egocentric Underneath Of Horror in 2015. Continue reading »

Putridity-Ignominious Atonement

(Our good friend from the Dominican Republic, Vonlughlio, returns to NCS with this guest review of the new album by the Italian band Putridity.)

To the readers who have seen my top year-end lists, it would be safe to say that one of my favorite genres in metal is Brutal Death Metal. Some of my favorite bands in this genre are: Gorgasm, Cerebral Effusion, Seminal Embalmment, Cenotaph (Turkey), Defeated Sanity, and Putridity.

The band Putridity is from Italy and was formed in 2005 from the ashes of Obscene Perversion and in 2007 they released their debut album Mental Prolapse Induces Necrophilism. But I found out about this band in 2012, a year later after the release of their second album (shame on me I guess) and purchased it along with their debut album. I have to say that I was blown away by this band’s performance in both of those releases. Great riffs with superb drumming and killer vocals.

Now flash forward to early 2015. When the band announced their new album Ignominious Atonement I was at work, but somehow a “fuck yeah” escaped my mouth. Since it was released via Willowtip I have lost count of how many times I have listened to it. My first impression is how much the people who recorded that album — Davide “BrutalDave” Billia (Drums), Paolo Chiti (Vocals), Andrea “Ciccio” Aimone (Guitars), Paolo “Panino” (Guitars), and Alessandro Cravero (Bass) — have grown as musicians, with such strong performances. They just flat-out released one of the best BDM albums of 2015. Continue reading »

(Brutality shall reign: Our old and loyal friend Vonlughlio from the Dominican Republic interviews Henri Sison, the drummer of Disentomb from Australia.)

I’ve been given the opportunity to conduct an interview with Henri (Drummer) of Disentomb, one of my favorite Brutal Death Metal bands from Australia.  Just last year they released via New Standard Elite their second full-length entitled Misery that was my Top 3 album in my year-end list (you can see the full list here).

This is one band that I can honestly say exactly how I found them: It was in 2011 after the release of their debut album Sunken Chambers of Nephilim. I was drawn first by its artwork, and the music turned out to be just top-notch BDM from start to finish. Continue reading »

(As he has in years past, long-time NCS supporter Vonlughlio from the Dominican Republic brings us his list of favorite albums released during the year that’s now ending.)

So the time has arrived to post my favorite albums of 2014 and I would like to thank Mr. Islander for sharing my list for the third year in a row. Back in 2012 my list was just 25, and last year it was 40. This year makes it 50, but rest assured it will stay that way for the future.

All the days spent creating my list and the several drafts were all a clusterfuck of sorts, because I enjoyed so many releases that I just kept on looking and listening to the albums I got this year. Now I understand why some people (like Islander) don’t make a list — it’s damn hard. On the other hand, there were albums that I always knew would be on my list. Anyways, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the contributors here at NCS — really amazing job on this site. Continue reading »

(In this post we welcome back our good friend from the Dominican Republic and stalwart NCS supporter, Vonlughlio, who provides the following list of his favorite 2013 releases.)

So the time as arrived again for the year-end year, and for the second time I have been privileged to be able to post mine here at No Clean Singing. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Islander for letting me share the albums I have grown to love in 2013. Thanks also to all the other guest writers for their year-end contributions, through which I have found some great music.

Last year, when I did my top 25, I knew what albums would be on the list from the get-go and did not have any second thoughts about it. This year, with all the great releases, I had a tough time to be honest. I had to make several drafts and still was not satisfied with the end result. So I decided to make a top 40, and after three attempts finally made a list that I feel comfortable with.  When I showed it to friends, some were shocked that certain well-known bands (whose albums I liked) did not make the final draft. In fact, some of the readers here will be puzzled as well.

Another thing I decided to do this year was to include some of my favorite EP’s.  To be honest, I’m more into full-lengths, but decided to pay more attention since there is some quality music in this type of release. With all that being said, here is my top 40. Hope you like my choices and if not, that is ok too. Continue reading »
