disintegration-ep-cover

As I think most observers of the global metal scene are well aware, the population of Indonesia includes a large and intensely devoted horde of metalheads, as well as a horde of metal bands whose main hallmark seems to be savagery. Breaking out of the pack and becoming visible beyond the borders of this vast conglomeration of islands is no doubt an enormous challenge, but today we introduce you to a new Indonesian band who have at least caught our blood-shot eyes. The band is a two-man group named Disintegration, and they are already showing great promise.

The members of Disintegration are guitarist/vocalist Budi and drummer Dani. They’re from Kediri, in East Java, and they’ve recorded a debut demo that consist of two tracks — “Kehancuran” and “Tahta Berhala“. What we have for you is not only a premiere stream of the first track, but also the opportunity to download the song for free directly from our Soundcloud player. Continue reading »

balfor-black-serpent-rising

In this post we present the premiere of a lyric video for a song called “Crimson Stronghold” by the Ukrainian band Balfor, whose ranks include current or former members of Khors, Raventale, and Hate Forest. It comes from their first new album in six years, Black Serpent Rising, which is projected for release by Drakkar Productions on January 15, 2017.

“Crimson Stronghold” is immense in its sound, produced in a way that causes it to shiver the spine and crack the skull. And it’s powerful in other ways as well, apart from the sheer, almost-physical impact of the riffs and rhythms. Continue reading »

thaetas-band-photo

(Austin Weber introduces our premiere of a song by the New York band Thaetas off their forthcoming 2017 album.)

Right now I’m kicking myself, because I could have sworn I covered this year’s Thætas three-song demo here at NoCleanSinging, but it seems that so far I only wrote about it at Metal-Injection. Technically, they did get name-dropped here recently when we covered the new Buckshot Facelift, but that’s because Buckshot Facelift shares a guitarist with Thætas. So, for anyone who is new to the group, gather round, because Thætas are a very promising new band you need to check out.

Today we’ve got an exclusive premiere for you of “Isixhenxe”, a live-in-the-studio recording of a new song by the band that will be appearing on their full-length that’s planned for a 2017 release. Given that, it’s a bit on the raw side production-wise, but I think it gives the song a grittier feeling that I can get down with all the same. Overall, Thætas state that they are a brutal death metal band, but given the diversity in their music, they really deserve a shot from a lot of people who normally aren’t into that sound. misanthropic-rage-gates-no-longer-shut

There is nothing wrong with making music that sounds comfortably familiar, as long as it’s done well. In my book, “It’s been done before” isn’t a valid condemnation, standing alone. And let’s face it, trying to break out of well-known and well-loved boxes in ways that don’t leave the artists in a place that resembles a jumbled and ill-conceived mess isn’t easy. Yet having said that, many of us do keep our eyes and ears open for music that’s unexpected, inventive, intriguing, and conceived and executed in a sure-handed way.

Which brings me to Gates No Longer Shut, the new album by the Polish band Misanthropic Rage that we’re helping premiere today. Continue reading »

lebenssucht-live

Lebenssucht are a multinational black metal band whose members are spread among Bulgaria, Germany, and Belgium. This past summer they released a debut EP named Fucking My Knife, and today we’re helping to premiere an official video for the EP’s opening track, “Beloved Depression“.

The song is intense, and so is the video. And be careful who’s looking over your shoulder when you watch it. It depicts a woman in the throes of despair and delirium, self-mutilating and soaked in her own blood… and acting out the title of the band’s EP. So yes, NSFW. Continue reading »

thralldom-time-will-bend-into-horror

A decade has passed since New York’s Thralldom released their last album, A Shaman Steering the Vessel of Vastness. But Thralldom have returned after ten years with a new album named Time Will Bend Into Horror, which will be released through Ritual Productions on November 11. Last week an advance track from the album called “Chronovisions”  ensnared me, and lo and behold, now we get to bring you another one: “Stars and Graves“.

Though many years have passed, the members of Thralldom remain the same: Killusion and Jaldagar, i.e., Ryan Lipynsky (Unearthly Trance, Serpentine Path, The Howling Wind) and Jared Turinsky, though in composing Time Will Bend Into Horror they haven’t remained creatively rooted where we found them long ago. barbarian-swords-worms

There is some risk that when you look at this band’s name, their album art, and even some of their song titles, you’ll get the wrong idea about their music. My first thought was, “throwback speed metal, or maybe filthy black thrash”. That was wrong — very wrong — and the surprise turned out to be a big and stunning one.

The album’s name is Worms, and it’s the second full-length by the Spanish band Barbarian Swords. It will be released on November 11 by Cimmerian Shade Recordings and Satanath Records. We have for you a full-stream of the album in the player below. Continue reading »

maze-of-sothoth-soul-demise

Metal is mood music. Perhaps like all forms of music, you can use it either to suit the mood you’re in or to change your mood. But it can do either thing in ways more powerful and effective than most other forms of music. Take this next song for example.

What we have here is a track called “Seed of Hatred” by the Italian death metal band Maze of Sothoth. It’s from their debut album Soul Demise, which will be released by Everlasting Spew on January 9, 2017. If you’re current mood is vile, enraged, boiling with hate, and/or teetering on the brink of a violent outburst, “Seed of Hatred” will fit your mood like a fine Italian glove fits your hand — even when it’s curled into a fist.

And if you happen to be in a despondent funk, and want to find some vibrant energy that will shake you out of your gloom, the song can do that, too. Continue reading »

xoth-invasion-of-the-tentacube-front-cover

In the distant future when the Tentacube invades our pitiful, beleaguered planet (by which I mean three days from now, on the other side of our ghastly election), the widely differing strands of extreme metal will be fused into a single, monstrous, throbbing tentacle groping for your pleasure centers. By which I mean that Seattle’s XOTH will release their debut album, Invasion of the Tentacube, which you will be able to hear in its entirety below.

It may be an exaggeration to claim that XOTH have fused together all of the divergent strands of metal into a single heavy chord, but it’s true that attempting to cabin this head-spinning collage of sounds within a few simple genre terms would be a fool’s errand. The part about the pleasure centers? That’s totally true. Continue reading »

NAC_JcardTemplate_5-Panel

Prepare yourselves for an atmospherically oppressive and unnerving concoction of skull-splintering death-doom and pestilential black metal, because that’s what we’re about to bring you through our premiere of the debut, self-titled demo by a young band from Murcia, Spain, named Evocación. It will be released on tape by Caligari Records on November 11.

In a word, the music is horrifying — the stuff of hallucinations and nightmares, or perhaps smoke-shrouded rituals in which incantations are uttered, blood is spilled, and lives are lost. Continue reading »
