Last week I finally finished rolling out our list of 2013′s Most Infectious Extreme Metal Songs — or more accurately, I made myself stop. The list mushroomed in comparison to my lists from previous years, but as long as it was, I could easily have gone on. 2013 was just a great year for metal across a wide range of genres.

I know everyone reading this had favorite “infectious” songs from last year that I didn’t include, either because I ran out of time or just overlooked them, but also because this is really just one person’s list. I received recommendations from many sources, including my co-writers here at the site, and my own tastes are pretty diverse — but the responsibility for the choices is mine alone. And so although I tried to express the vast diversity of metal in my selection, it’s still limited by my own preferences.

What I’ve done in this post is collect the names of all 73 (!!) songs in one place, in the order in which they appeared in this series, with links to the installments where each song was discussed and can be streamed. (I thought about putting all the song streams in this post, but was afraid it would then take forever to load.)

Once again, for more details about what this list is all about and how it was compiled, read the introductory post via this link.

12 Responses to “OUR LIST OF 2013’S MOST INFECTIOUS EXTREME METAL SONGS: THE COMPLETE LIST”

  1. I still need to give a listen some of these, but so I far I have to thank for bringing Kataklysm’s latest and The Lion’s Daughter & Indian Blanket to my attention. Thank you!

  2. awesome list! i can’t wait to see how next year’s list compares after the unusually high amount of spectacular releases in 2013

    • I don’t know if it’s unusual anymore, considering 2012 was pretty much just as awesome, release-wise (I didn’t follow release schedules closely before 2012, so I can’t speak as to any years before that).

  3. Yeah, there’s a bunch here I haven’t heard yet, but fortunately I’m not completely lost. I just added Enshine to my collection and when I can spare a bit more cash, I’ll make my way though more releases from ’13 that I missed out on.

  4. what is that cover picture? i founded this https://www.facebook.com/polybiusmusic

  5. Where are the tracks?!

  6. I like Skeletonwitch and Carcass the most of all these groups.

  7. I know this is an old post but I think I got to it from an Opeth interview…
The INSTANT I saw the title of this list I immediately thought “Well I certainly hope An Ocean of Wisdom is on here”
    I wasn’t disappointed.
Seeing Ephemeral by Insomnium on here as well… a song that I have an extremely deep emotional connection to and has also inadvertently kickstarted the greatest thing that will ever happen in my life…
Well that made me smile inside. I wasn’t expecting to see my absolute favorite song from last year on here. At it’s core it is indeed indubitably infectious. The bouncing melody in that main riff… oh my god.
Speaking of bouncy rhythms and melodies… my other favorite songs of last year besides Ephemeral weren’t on here but are in my opinion worth mentioning… despite some pretenses people might jump to about their respective genres…
    Interestingly they’re both instrumentals:
Ataxia II by Within the Ruins and Cuando El Destino Nos Alcance by Hybrid (Angst is without contest among the elite out of every album I have ever heard. Haha see what I did there?)

    • Thanks for stopping by with this comment, and for mentioning those last two songs, which I’m pretty sure I had never heard when I put this list together.
